This policy explains the cookies and similar device storage (such as your browser’s local and session storage) that Ink & Echo uses, what each is for, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more broadly.
We keep this to a minimum. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not use third-party cross-site tracking.
Keeping you signed in relies on a small amount of information that cannot be switched off. Our authentication provider stores your sign-in session and security tokens in your browser — held in secure local storage rather than in cookies — so that you stay signed in as you move between pages. Without it you could not sign in or play. Because it is essential to a service you have asked for, it does not require consent.
To make the app work smoothly we keep a small amount of information in your browser’s local and session storage. This stays on your device and is not shared with us as personal data. It includes:
your preferences, such as theme and language;
whether you have completed the first-run welcome tour, and whether you have dismissed the beta notice;
short-lived caches (for example your current campaign’s settings and your membership level) that save us re-fetching the same information and make the app feel faster.
We use privacy-preserving usage analytics to understand how the game performs and where it breaks. The tier that is linked to your account may use a third-party analytics and performance-monitoring provider; it loads only after you have opted in, and never for signed-out visitors.
An anonymous tier is always on and is never linked to your account. A tier linked to your account runs only if you turn it on, is off by default, and can be changed at any time in App Settings → Privacy. Our Privacy Policy describes exactly what is collected and for how long.
We also measure our own marketing: when you first arrive, we keep a random identifier in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie) and record on our own servers which site or advert brought you here. This is first-party only — no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers on the site. This identifier is only ever visible to us and only on our own site — it cannot follow you around the web, no advertising platform can read it, and we use it for nothing except counting which of our adverts lead to sign-ups. Turning the analytics toggle off in App Settings → Privacy stops this recording on your device. The Privacy Policy (“How we measure our marketing”) has the details.
A few features hand you over to, or embed a service from, other companies, who operate under their own privacy and cookie policies:
Sign in with Google or Apple — only if you choose to use those sign-in options;
Stripe — when you buy credits or a membership, to process the payment securely and help prevent fraud;
our analytics and performance-monitoring provider — only if you opt in to account-linked analytics (see section 4); it loads in the background under its own policy and does not set advertising cookies.
You can block or delete cookies and clear site storage through your browser settings. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop you signing in and using the game. You can turn account-linked analytics on or off at any time in App Settings → Privacy, and signing out or deleting your account clears the data tied to it.
If we change the cookies or storage we use, we will update this page and the “last updated” date above.
