Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Ink & Echo ("we", "us"), the online collaborative storytelling game. Using the game means you accept them, so please read them.

1. Accepting these terms

By creating an account, playing as a guest, or otherwise using Ink & Echo you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the game.

2. Who can use Ink & Echo

You must be at least 18 years old to use Ink & Echo. The game creates AI-generated content and is intended for adults; by playing, whether as a guest or with an account, you confirm that you are 18 or over. One person may hold one account unless we agree otherwise.

3. Your account, or playing without one

Keep your login details private and do not share your account. You are responsible for everything that happens under it. Tell us promptly at support@inkecho.world if you believe someone else has accessed it.

You can also play without an account, as a guest. A guest story is held for a short time so that you can keep it by creating an account; if you do not, it is deleted together with the guest session, as our Privacy Policy describes. These terms apply to guest play exactly as they apply to an account.

4. Your content and the licence you grant us

You own the worlds, characters, stories, music prompts and other material you create ("Your Content"). To run the game we need your permission to use it. By submitting Your Content you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to:

store and back it up;

process it to operate the game — including sending the text you submit during play to third-party AI providers so they can generate story and music in response;

display it back to you and, where you choose to make something public, to other players.

5. Looking after, and removing, Your Content

This licence lasts only as long as we host Your Content. It ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies held in routine backups, which are removed on our normal cycle. You are responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the right to submit it and to grant the licence above.

6. Acceptable use

Our Content & Safety Policy sets out in more detail what is and isn't allowed. In short, so the lodge stays welcoming and lawful, you agree not to:

submit content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, sexually exploitative of minors, or that infringes someone else's rights;

impersonate other people or misrepresent who you are;

try to break, overload, scrape, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service or to other accounts;

abuse the AI — for example to generate prohibited content or to extract the underlying prompts or models;

resell or commercially exploit the service without our written permission.

7. AI-generated content

Story text, images and music are generated by AI in response to what you submit. AI can be wrong, unexpected, or repetitive, and its output does not represent our views. It is provided for entertainment and is not professional advice. You are responsible for how you use what the AI produces; ownership of AI output is shared as set out in section 4 and may also be subject to the AI providers' own terms.

8. Credits, purchases and billing

Playing on the standard narrator is included: a free account receives a daily allowance of rounds, and a membership lets you play as much as you like, subject to the fair-usage policy in section 9. Other things cost credits ("Threads"): the richer narrators, and the pictures, maps, music and made-to-order adventures the game generates for you. You can buy credits outright or receive them with a membership, which renews automatically until you cancel — and you can cancel at any time from the Billing page. Except where the law gives you a refund right, credits are non-refundable once spent. Prices, allowances and the cost of each action may change; we will show the current cost before you spend. Our Refund & Cancellation Policy explains how cancellations and refunds work.

9. Fair use

Where a plan is described as unlimited, or as letting you play as much as you like, that is a promise made to a person, playing. It is subject to a fair-usage policy, which exists so that the service keeps working for everyone and to stop automated, scripted or resale use. Nobody playing for their own enjoyment, however keen, should expect to meet it.

In practice this means: if your use over a billing period runs far beyond what a person playing normally would generate, we may first give your turns a lower priority in the queue, and then apply the standard free daily allowance to your account for the rest of that billing period. Your membership, your credits and your stories are unaffected, and play returns to normal when the period resets.

We set the thresholds and may change them as the service grows. The current figures are shown on the pricing page, and the app will tell you when you are approaching a limit, before anything changes.

10. Referrals and rewards

You get a personal invitation link. When someone new signs up through it, you both receive bonus credits, and you receive more when they make their first purchase — the current amounts are always shown on your Referrals page, and they may change.

Referral credits are a promotional bonus, not something you have bought: they have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money or transferred between accounts, and are not refundable. Rewards are capped, and we may withhold, reverse or cancel them — and suspend the account — where a referral is not genuine.

Invite real people. Accounts you create yourself, or that exist to collect rewards, do not count.

One referrer per account, fixed when the account is created. It cannot be reassigned afterwards.

Your reward for a new sign-up arrives once their email address is confirmed.

There are limits on how much the sign-up reward can pay each week and each month, and a lifetime total. Past a limit the referral still counts towards a purchase reward, but pays nothing at sign-up.

Rewards for a friend's purchase are paid once, on their first purchase, and are limited to a fixed number of referrals in total.

11. Our intellectual property

Ink & Echo, our name and logo, the software, and the look and feel of the game are owned by us or our licensors. These terms do not give you any right to use our branding, except to use the game as intended. If you believe content on Ink & Echo infringes your copyright, our Copyright & DMCA Policy explains how to let us know.

12. Suspension and termination

You can stop using Ink & Echo and delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the law, or where we reasonably need to protect the service or other players. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will give you notice.

13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The game is provided "as is" and "as available"; we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of content you did not back up, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will update this page and the "last updated" date above and, where required, tell you in the app. Continuing to use the game after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we operate, and its courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live. (Owner to confirm the governing law and venue before launch.)
