The Arcanum of Pendragast

Hidden from the mundane world by incredibly complex illusion wards, Pendragast Academy trains the next generation of magi. Students balance the mundane terrors of exams, teenage rivalry, and coming-of-age with the very real dangers of potion explosions, rogue magical creatures, and ancient curses hidden in the castle's forgotten depths.

Rules of Reality

The Veil of Secrecy

The magical world must remain entirely hidden from the Mundane population. Breaking the Veil is a severely punished crime handled by the Ministry of Mysticism.

Wand Symbiosis

A spellcaster cannot simply pick up any magical focus. The wand, staff, or ring must resonate with the caster's internal mana signature, effectively 'choosing' them.

Sentient Architecture

Pendragast Castle is infused with centuries of residual magic. Staircases move, portraits gossip, and rooms hide themselves unless the seeker truly needs them.

The Cost of Dark Arts

Casting magic meant to harm or control the minds of others physically decays the caster's soul, permanently altering their physical appearance and sanity.

Species & Powers

Humans

The witches and wizards of Pendragast are human, whether born to ancient magical bloodlines or as First-Generation Magi — those born to entirely non-magical parents, who often face prejudice from older, elite families but are frequently capable of immense raw power.

Key Locations

Pendragast Castle

The Academy itself: a labyrinth of stairways that rearrange at whim, towers older than the kingdoms below, and wards thick enough to hide it from every mundane map.

The Bramble-Woods

A dense, ancient, and highly dangerous forest on the edge of the school grounds. It is strictly off-limits to students and home to centaurs, giant arachnids, and worse.

Diadem Alley

A hidden cobblestone shopping district in central London, accessible only by tapping the correct brick behind a dingy pub. Sells everything from spellbooks to dragon-scale cloaks.

The Misty Loch

The black, glass-still loch beneath the castle crag. The Academy's boats cross it on first arrival — and older things cross it on nights the mist comes up the lawns.
